I’ve slowly come to the conclusion that I can’t call myself transgender because the term has become too inclusive. Cross dressers and drag queens are often considered transgender. People who have no desire to live in their identified gender are considered transgender. It’s all becoming a madhouse between that and people making up fanciful but farcical new genders left and right.
The most accurate word I see is transsexual. It states exactly what I am, and even though the term isn’t loved by the trans community it doesn’t allow the sort of misunderstanding that transgender seems to beg.
Color me a little uncomfortable with having to make these choices, but there you have it. An older accurate word or a newer word that means nothing specific.
