Stenosis

A word one doesn’t want to hear about their vagina, whether spoken in their head or by a doctor. Stenosis is the narrowing of a structure in the body but in this case I’m referring to my lady parts.

The theory is very simple. They create a vagina out of penile and scrotal skin and you follow a schedule for dilation faithfully. Over the first year you slowly reduce dilations from four times a day down to a couple of times a week or even once a week.

The dilation is supposed to keep the neovagina open, but problems can occur nonetheless, even with faithful following of directions.

I find myself in rough shape, barely able to insert more than the first couple of inches of the dilator. I’m going to visit a gyn to see if they can do anything that would fix the problem and hopefully for the problem not to come back. I’m pessimistic because even with dilating a couple of times a week, now, five years after my surgery this is still a problem.

  1. Thanks Sy, dilation doesn’t have to be really painful but it is right now from the stenosis. I’m seeing a gyn familiar with transwomen this Thursday. Perhaps they’ll have some good ideas.

The problem can be fixed with another surgery but I suspect there is something simple I can do to make dilation more effective and less painful. That’s the avenue to start with.
