Thanksgiving

Yes, I’m really that behind on writing blog posts. I’m overdue by two months. Mea maxima culpa.

I spent Thanksgiving with my dear friend Richard up in Rockland Maine. We watched movies, chatted and visited the Hopper Museum. I would say that I could appreciate the art while not being entranced by it. For another a real treat, but for me just an appreciation of the artist’s work.

The really interesting part of the trip was the travelling to and from Rockland. I started out going to Rockland taking the train from Haverhill, MA to Brunswick, ME. So far so good. Unfortunately things went downhill. I had plenty of time for the bus to Rockland. I was seated in a room, a bus depot for Concord Trailways. Unfortunately, when the bus arrived the driver didn’t make any attempt to be audible and so I ended up missing the bus. Also, the bus only runs that route once a day, so I was in some trouble. Fortunately, Richard was only an hour away and was able to come get me. The rest of the trip was fine.

Travelling home was better, and the train runs every couple of hours. I still got the train I was scheduled for, but it was nice to know I had options.

Just heartache for the trip was finding that my cellphone wasn’t working. I needed it to call Uber. A kind person in a nearby store let me pay with their credit card and I paid them cash. I then got home but there was a bit of stress and strain.

I got back to the apartment in a confused state of mind. I eventually worked things out and got help from my spouse.

Afterward I waited for Concord trailways to contact me. The minder from the depot had placed a complaint for me. After a couple of weeks, they sent me a voucher for a free trip from south station (?). The coupon was valid for a year.

First, I was a bit much that they assumed I wanted to use their services again. Next, I also needed to be recompensed for the gas used in picking me up from Brunswick – I felt obliged to refund Richard his gas money, it wasn’t his fault that they stranded me. So I wrote a letter explaining this and I’ve heard nothing back from then.
