Growing Weed

I’ve taken to using medical marijuana to help with Parkinson’s, depression and anything else that might get caught up and helped. Unfortunately it isn’t exactly covered by insurance. Here in Mass it’s legal for both recreational and medical use though and I’m able to grow my own.

I’ve always been an avid DIY sort and this is no exception. So I bought seeds from a place called Seedman in England (you can’t by seeds domestically although some dispensaries sell clones). A few weeks later I had several seeds for “Bubba Kush.” I put one between a couple of wet towels and was rewarded a few days later with a taproot and the cotyledon.

Setting up a little grow booth, in my case 20″x30″ is not particularly expensive nor cheap. I spent $400 on it, which sounds like a lot until you realize that one harvest gives you about $800 worth of pot. The grow booth is a nylon tent coated on the inside with silvered mylar. There’s a LED light source that uses 100W of power to produce 600W equivalent light output (really, really bright). There’s also a charcoal filtered exhaust fan that filters out the pungent aromas when the plant is flowering.

So far the grow is about a month along. I’ve chosen to grow in soil, the simplest method and cheapest. I bought organic soil at a local home improvement store and some organic potting soil from Amazon.

I’m ending this with four photos one week apart. The predominant purple color is because that’s the lighting. Why produce light that won’t get absorbed and used by the chlorophyll?

    1. The best I give it some. Some help on everything, but not always. It’s helped my mood, lessened my migraines and I think helped the Parkinson’s symptoms some.
