When the World was new

It’s been a while since I posted a poem. Today I got up on the wrong side of the bed. After some time had passed I felt the need to sublimate some of what is in my brain into a poem. I trust you will find it uplifting.

When the World was new

I remember when the world was new
When it was filled with hearts and glances
When I was just a boy,
I dreamed of sweet romances

I traveled on a fair-weather breeze,
For all the world was good to me
I saw the world with cheerful eyes
A day of hope and sympathy

I docked on a far offshore
And saw a maiden soft and fair
Under the stars we strolled as one
And passed a midnight there

But hearty health is no promise
The days were never owed to me
At mercy now of feckless foam
I travel on the endless sea

We slept that night my angel close
Our deep night slumber bore no waking
My life changed and world spun on
With all the songbirds singing

  1. It took me a while to go look at this poem Rachel, but I’m glad I did. I liked it very much. Makes me think of a Keats poem like (Fears of Ceasing to be); not sure that is the actual name.
