Catching you all up and Thanks for all the Fish

It was about two weeks ago that I turned to my partner and said that my pain was becoming bad and we needed to head down to the ER. Although we don’t keep prepared bags, we both know what to bring when going to the ER. Laptops or handheld tablets, charging cables and adapters and maybe some munchies like Cashews.

We had long ago figured our position in triage, usual 6-8 hours. Sigh. We had plenty of practice between my issues and having housed my Dad for about eight years.

Well if I have a stroke or infarction going on I’ll be thankful for the triage system, meanwhile I try to be gracious and remember that while may feel like you’re at death’s door you are really just at the ticket booth. The long and the short of it was that nobody cared overmuch about the pain since that was the admission’s ticket. However, retaining urine caused some concern. I wouldn’t have thought that given my limited knowledge so off we went to a local rehab. My partner went home and I was tucked into bed to sleep in a hallway until they could move me to the rehab.

Mostly I don’t recommend spending time in these places. Many of the other patients at the rehab were nursing home residents and even very gentle attempts at communication were unlikely to produce a response. But there were many folks who were still there and willing to chat. I played the piano, well appreciated by the residents despite my personal applied grade of C-. But they liked it and I was getting something I really needed, I hung out a bit and learned a dozen words in Portuguese. Those romance languages are all such carbon copies.I also got a lot of practice speaking French, there seems be a lot of health care workers workers grom french speaking countries around here.

Then the funds ran dry and I was back at home again. I’m getting some additional at home assistance which I’m grateful for. I’m hoping for a Parkinson’s med that will keep my feet from deciding to change directions on their own. Up to now I thought that was my decision to make, I guess my brain thinks it knows better.

And now for another word from our sponser…….

I’ve been writing this blog for about ten years now. My primary focus has been on making transgender people understandable to themselves and their friends, families and others who are baffled by the phenomenon. But I find myself much less focused on gender matters.

So this is my announcement that I’m ending this blog and starting a new general one that interest me. I’m sure I’ll post the odd transgender piece here and there, but it isn’t the center of my life anymore. It will probably be some time before I get ramped up. Please opine on whether or not you think the new blog should allow for multiple authors. I do see some potential for that espectially on subjects like AI.
